Handumanan sa Usa ka Awit
This is one of things that I miss the most about home. DYHP on weekday afternoons. I remember relaxing on my folding bed in the living room with a sketchpad and a box of crayons. I doodled while listening to "Handumanan".

It was really BISDAK. Kina-basdakan... But I really miss it!

Here's a song that holds a lot of memories for me.

Sikwate!
May lain pa?

Maskin pa'g naay champorado, lami gihapon iparis ug sikwate. Kanang ispiso ug tam-is nga sikwate.

Maskin unsaon pa, lami jud ang sikwate. Ibahog sa kan-on, iparis ug puto, tusluban ug pan, bibingka ug budbud. Bisan unsa pay pamahaw, di jud kumpleto kung way sikwate.

Maong maypagka-itomon akong manghod. Pero gibawi pod kay arangan man pod ug hitsura. Way mosupak kay tinuod nga gwapo akong manghod, ug usa pa, ako ning blog!

Hahay...

Pitlagong Festival
Here are images from the Pitlagong Festival.

My cousin, IC holding the banner for Langtad Elementary School in the Opening Parade

I think these cuties are from Bulasa Elementary School. See how serious this little kid with the silver drum is?

Not sure which school this was.

Gedor and his friend. Talaga's contingent in the Festival Parade. They had an Octopus on top of a truck.

This little kid looked like he was saying, "This is how you do it!"

\
CSCST's drummers.

Canbanua National High's float had a kid on top of a coconut tree cleaning sugongs with a pitlagong.

More little drummers. Average height of this band is about 3.5 feet. And they sound awesome!

Policemen were the official color bearers.

Miss Argao Candidate

Pretty Girls from Saint Michael School

Town Mayor Willie Caminero with other goverment officials.

Forgot which contingent this was. They were the most unique, wearing strappy sandals instead of the usual twirler's boots.

More cute drummers.

Pitlagong queens.

Argao II's float. The firefighter was drenched in sweat. It was really warm and he had to wear that!

There was a wake near my house. What else comes with a wake? Hantak, of course!

Little Miss Looc

Little Miss Looc 2004 took a lot of preparation. And it was so much fun!

First, we had to find candidates. A lot of little girls wanted to join. But a lot of them were already lined up to perform for the program on pageant night. The rest of the kids were busy rehearsing their songs and dances at Pier 2, the end of the Kintanar Street. And it's simply amazing. Those kids in Argao are talented.

You know you're Argaoanon if.....
There are a lot of things that are unique to the Filipino culture, and Argaoanons in particular. Things that are perfectly normal to the normal Argaoanon are just 'different', sometimes weird, to other people.

Here are a few things that I do that is so totally Argaoanon:

1. respond to 'Psst!' mo-lingi lagi dayon.
7. ganahan kaayu kog flavor of the road, which comes around with the tiling-tiling
8. ang sinulti-an naay L. baLay, kaLayo, daLagan, uLo, waLa... Wala mo kabantay, ang Laysho, gasugod ug L. basin mas Laysho kung di mag-syudad2x sinultian?
9. makalagot kaayu kung makalimot kog syudad2x kung naa syudad. Kay bisdak paminawn. Sagdi lang mga bisdak gwapa man.

Kining uban nga observations sa akong bana nga di taga-Argao:

1. Di samokan sa tilaok sa manok inig kabuntag.
2. Sobra-an ka proud of the church, torta ug browas.
3. Di mahadlok ug damang (spider)
4. Mahilig sa manggang hilaw ug uyap

One thing that is not so Argaoanon: ganahan kaayu ko mokanta, pero haskang yabaga. Most other Argaoanon I know sing very well.

Ikaw, Argaoanaon ka?

Here are some more taga-Argao-isms from Marjory Cagigas:

1. Kargado sa pari taga Argao.(haven't you notice nga daghan ayo pari nga Argaonon?)
2.Paghikay gyd ining pista ni Senor San Miguel maski way kwarta. In other words mangutang para naay ikapakaon sa mga bisita.hehehehe...
3. One of the many hobbies of the Argaonons is "sabong".
